Mermaid Aiming for Sixth World Record in NYC for UN

Swim Strong Foundation and Water Safety Coalition Support Elite Swimmer Merle Livand in Spotlighting United Nations' 2030 Agenda's Sustainability Goals.

Swimmer Merle Livand as she swims 330 meters with a monofin to bring attention to the United Nations' universal call to end poverty, protect the planet, and ensure people enjoy peace all over the world by 2030.

Merle focuses on the UN's sustainable development goals, including Sustainable Cities and Communities, Climate Action, and Clean Water and Sanitation. The event will take place at Beach 44' Street. Rockaway Queens, NY on Friday, September 15 at 10am.

The beach community along the Rockaways is a fitting venue to highlight the work at the community, city, and state level to ensure water safety education is available to all and everyone has equitable access to safe water and can learn life-saving swimming skills.

"This swim highlights a pivotal moment for us in NY where we are amplifying the criticality of situational knowledge of water, swimming skills, our environment and climate action," said Shawn Slevin, founder of Swim Strong Foundation. "What better way to spotlight this than in supporting Merle Livand as she completes this swim and receives an award from the United Nations for her environmental work, particularly her ocean advocacy.
