Media, Journalism, Communications Intern

Job Description 

The intern will be at the forefront of developing video, web, or print communications to effectively communicate news about cleanups. The position will further develop CleanUp News as the global leader in communicating news, editorials, video and media about the field.   It will include documenting and editing content to be included in blog posts, videos, webpages, and more. Additionally, interns will have the opportunity to learn about innovative environmental technologies and systems, researching new technologies and programs, interviewing researchers about current science papers, participating in teleconferences and summarizing meetings with industry on key issues, drafting and quality-assuring reports, updating the website, supporting a separate Master’s policy project for a National CleanUp Plan, and assisting with administrative tasks. In addition to the communications work, a key part of this internship will be direct participation in National CleanUp Day / Clean Trails work, in partnership with multiple non-profits, municipalities, educational institutions, and businesses.  This internship offers a wide variety of experiences in journalism, media, and communications. 

 

Qualifications:  Must be at least a college junior in good standing currently enrolled in a degree in Media, Journalism, Communications, Marketing, Environment or a related field. Alternatively, business, economics, natural sciences, public policy, or students with significant knowledge of media, journalism and/or graphic design are encouraged to apply. • Master’s degree students encouraged to apply. • Must have an interest in recycling, behavior science, waste diversion, and/or related environmental issues. • Must have strong writing and research skills. • Must be a self-starter, flexible and able to manage multiple tasks. • Must have excellent computer skills or ability to quickly learn various computer programs including Microsoft programs (Excel, Outlook and Word), Adobe programs (Photoshop, InDesign), and film editing programs (e.g. Final Cut or iMovie). • Must have effective interpersonal communication skills. 

 

Additional Information Time Commitment: This position is available for a minimum of ten weeks.
