River Cleanup on a Wave

April 22nd was Earth Day. A day to support environmental protection, raise awareness for our consumer behavior and its impact on our planet.

Interesting insight: this annual recurring day exists since 1970! Numerous communities engage in Earth Day-activities, focused on the environmental issues that our world is facing.

On this very day, River Cleanup also took action! They held a cleanup together with BNP Paribas Fortis. Almost 300 motivated employees took action via different teambuilding activities to make a difference.

In Antwerp, they held a Hotspot Cleanup weekend on April 23rd and 24th. Although Belgium might not look like a polluted country at first glance, there is a lot to improve! The Scheldt river guides many ships to the Port of Antwerp, and with every low tide tons of trash get stranded on the riverbanks.

This weekend they cleaned up the Scheldt river with the financial support of our partner Deutsche Bank Belgium! 110 volunteers came to help and cleared away 2600 kg of plastics. What an achievement!

Interested in lending a helping hand? Join one of their upcoming cleanups or organize one yourself!.

If you haven't noticed, every first Sunday of the month we organize River Sunday. Everyone can take action, but this month we supported the cleanup of our friends at Let's Cleanup Nepal. LCUN is a nonprofit organization active in Nepal that spreads awareness for a cleaner environment.

Over 50 River Warriors gave it their very best and collected 120 bags of waste. The bags were transported to the Doko Recyclers Center in Kathmandu for recycling.
