City of Barstow National Cleanup Day & Love Our Byways Event
The City of Barstow Solid Waste & Recycling Division is partnering with the National Cleanup Day Organization in holding cleanup events at least once annually on the official National Cleanup Day which is the 3rd Saturday of September.
For 2021, we are working together with the “Barstow Byway Group” comprised of the California Historic Route 66 Association, Bureau of Land Management, Chamber Tourism Committee, Main Street Murals, Desert Discovery Center and Mojave Trails National Monument as part of the Love Our Byway program focused on improving and promoting our local byway.
As a collaborative effort and with additional sponsorship by Burrtec Waste Industries, Inc., we are currently coordinating the event to occur along Route 66, specifically the downtown area of Barstow (Main Street, from Otis Avenue to Barstow Road) focusing on the pocket parks at 1st Avenue and at 3rd Avenue.
Mark your calendars now, and plan on attending SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 18, 2021 AT 10 AM CDT – 12 PM CDT
Results were impressive with more than 60 volunteers in attendance alongside Mayor Paul Anthony Courtney, Councilmembers Marilyn Dyer-Kruse and Tim Silva on Saturday 9/18 for the “National Clean-Up Day,” and the “Love Your Byways Event,” in the City of Barstow. Today’s event was sponsored by the City of Barstow, America’s Byways, the California Historic Rt. 66 Association, the National Scenic Byways Association, Burrtec, Desert Discovery Center, Main Street Murals, the Barstow Area Chamber of Commerce with special thanks to Toyota and Del Taco for their continued support.
